Female vocalists are emerging from all over the UK. Following PJ Harvey and Florence and the Machine’s lead, emerges the London rock outfit named after the 1981 David Cronenberg film, Scanners.
Matt Mole (guitar, synths, vocals) and Sarah Daly (bass, violen, vocals) formed Scanners four years ago, playing only with a drum machine, various synths and their own calm smoky voices. Amina Bates (guitar, b. vocals, keys) and Tom Hutt (drums) completed the Scanner’s four person lineup.
By pure chance, …

The metamorphosis of musician Jamie Lidell is something that would make Kafka proud; his career reminds me of that Cronenberg picture with Jeff Goldblum “The Fly”, but it’s not quite as messy and doesn’t involve any insects, biology and other horribly executed plot twists and motifs.
Jamie Lidell made a name for himself during the late 90’s as part of electronic project Super-Collider along with minimalist Dj Cristian Vogel . After two electronic leaning albums with said project, Lidell …
What do gay pirates and Jessica Alba have in common?
It’s hard to say what fans have in store for this contemporary entertainment-renaissance man. Not only does he write and perform his music, he is also a filmmaker, poet, and of coarse a campaigner for the equal treatment of gay pirates.
His latest video, A Tale of Two Dicks, explores the comical facets of sharing an apartment with people you might care for but truly can’t stand. Written and directed by Mr. Jarvis, the video makes for one gay viewing (pun intended).
For this Jersey boy turned Englishman, film making is just one avenue to release his comically creative exploits and rest assured, if you enjoyed the movie, you’re gonna love his music.
Uk’s electronic producer Darren Cunningham aka -Actress- is slated to drop a new record “Splazsh” via british label/record store Honest John’s.
‘Splazsh” comes in with a total of fifteen tracks (listed below) and according to FACT MAG, “the production sounds brighter, more full-bodied and extroverted than the inward-looking and altogether, er, hazier Hazyville“.
If you didn’t get a chance to hear 2008’s “Hazyville” listen to Ivy May Gilpin-HERE.
Before the album drops, Actress will release a single ‘Paint, Straw And Bubbles”, with a remix by Zomby.
In addition to dropping his own releases Cunningham is the label head of Werk Discs; label mates include Lone, Zomby and Lukid.
No official word on release dates, but sources are saying March.
This spring Broken Social Scene will release a new LP on May, 4th (title still pending) via Arts and Crafts .
The new album comes five years after their last self-titled release and will feature contributions from Leslie Feist, Evan Cranley, Emily Haines and former singer/drummer of Death From Above 1979 -Sebastien Grainger.
Said album was produced by John McEntire (member of Tortoise and the Sea and Cake) who has previously recorded Stereolab and Teenage Fanclub.
The list of people involved …
The xx released a new video VCR.
It’s getting harder and harder not to run into this band; a takeover is already underway. With a recent announcement to SXSW 2010 and Coachella, The xx are in the midst of hitting the mainstream.
Adding to the frenzy of buzz is the highly anticipated remix treatment The xx are giving label mate Gil Scott Heron’s forthcoming LP ” I’m New Here”, not to mention an expected solo release from young beat maker Jamie Smith (aka Jamie XX).
Apparently, said solo project made iconic dub step producer Burial take notice. If your interested in getting a sense of what Jamie XX’s up to UK’s FACT MAG has a free mix for download.
