New Jamie Lidell LP features Feist and Beck
The metamorphosis of musician Jamie Lidell is something that would make Kafka proud; his career reminds me of that Cronenberg picture with Jeff Goldblum “The Fly”, but it’s not quite as messy and doesn’t involve any insects, biology and other horribly executed plot twists and motifs.
Jamie Lidell made a name for himself during the late 90’s as part of electronic project Super-Collider along with minimalist Dj Cristian Vogel . After two electronic leaning albums with said project, Lidell put down the synths and took up soul – a unlikely but very interesting evolution. Today, Lidell belongs to that exclusive club of artists that have transitioned from one style of music to another successfully.
Currently, Lidell is working on a new album “Compass” due May, 18th via Warp records. According to pitchfork the “Compass” will feature collaborations from Feist, Beck, Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor, Daniel Rossen, and Chris Bear, Wilco’s Pat Sansone and legendary R&B drummer James Gadson. Presently, no word on a U.S. tour, but Lidell has a few shows happening in the U.K.
