First Aid Kit @ SXSW 2010

Fresh off the European January release of their debut album The Big Black and Blue, Swedish indie-folk duo (and sisters) Johanna and Klara Söderberg – better known as First Aid Kit – are making their SXSW (and American) debut this week in a number of performances, including today’s Young Turks showcase at Mohawk Patio.

These sisters, who home-recorded the song “Tangerine” in 2007 (an effort which enjoyed heavy airplay on Swedish radio) exploded onto the music industry radar in 2008 after posting a YouTube video of themselves covering Fleet Foxes’ “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song.” The girls’ 2008 debut EP Drunken Trees was released through Rabid Records in 2008 and re-released a year later in the United Kingdom by Wichita Records as an expanded version that included three acoustic recordings and a Fleet Foxes cover.

After sharpening their skills during European touring, First Aid Kit is releasing The Big Black and Blue in the U.S. in May and embarking upon a two-week American tour in June. LP33.tv had a chance to catch up with the band today in Austin – check out what the girls had to say above!
