Bad Rabbits Live Review: The Troubadour 4/21/10

“What’s our name!?” “BAD RABBITS!” (Repeat X 3) Blazing through their party jams to a packed Troubadour last night, Dua Boakye, lead singer of Bad Rabbits, made sure everyone remembered them, not only with call and response (smart!), but by also injecting us with a heavy dose of familiar yet superfresh high-energy funk.

The first thing through my mind: “Wow! These guys are ALL solid musicians. Polished and impeccable timing.” Then I thought: Prince, Chromeo, Sam Sparro, N.E.R.D, and lots of old school hip/hop and funk (Bobby Brown, Sly & The Family Stone). I realized I’ve never seen a band quite like Bad Rabbit. They interact with the crowd like a hip-hop artist, bang their heads like it’s metal, and then they’re suddenly side-stepping in-sync like a classic R&B group. My only complaint is the show was too short, not surprising since they were the opening band. But I have a strong feeling it won’t be long before these guys are headlining.

Bad Rabbits are currently touring the U.S. with Warner Bros band Foxy Shazam so go experience their explosive live show. Bad Rabbits, Bad Rabbits, Bad Rabbits…have the goods.  Don’t believe me? Check out “Stick Up Kids
